Talent plus - Which Event do you Start With? In the meet's 2nd year, the talent level has gone up. Noone will know until race time who is entered where but as far as possible match ups, let's start with the boys Distance Medley where 4 of the top 7 US indoor teams are entered. Included is half of the potential Penn relays field as 6 teams have run under 10:27 this year and 11 have run under 10:50. The boys 4 x 800 has 11 teams that have run under 8:17 with 2 others a literal shoe-in to do it as well. Individuals include 7 of the top 8 NJ and 2 of the top 4 PA 1600/milers, the National Champion in the DMR and the 2 mile, the 2-3 finishers in the National 400m, most of the top 800 and 3200 from the NJ Meet of Champions, the PA State mile champion, four 13' 00"+ pole vaulters, two 22'+ long jumpers and three 50"+ shot putters. And to crank the excitement level up a little higher, a group of five has high hopes to become the first high schooler to break 3:00 for the 1200 on NJ soil. In the girls, you have the National 4 x mile champions, the 2 mile champion, the State triple jump record holder, 10 girls with lifetime bests of 5:02 and under for the 1600, seven DMRs that ran under 12:45 and four 37+ shot putters and a peanut. Throw in the events that are not contested indoors and anything can happen. As always in April so much will depend on the weather. If Mother Nature decides to help out at the meet, it will be a track & field nut's dream. It all starts with a new event for 2007, the 4 x 1600 meter relay. The boys and girls were going to be combined but that had to be changed when each gender had 20+ teams enter the race. It will be one heat for both and then on to the other events. What event will everyone but talking about when they leave? It could be any of them. You'll have to come to see yourself. |
